A Resolution Authorizing TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF APPROVED, ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF \n \n $250,000, OR OTHERWISE AWARDED, FROM THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE FOR A \n \n CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM FOR PRE-BOOKING DIVERSION PROGRAM FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH \n \n MENTAL ILLNESS AND TO PROVIDE FOR NEW HORIZONS TO ACT AS THE SOLE SOURCE VENDOR \n \n IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS GRANT WITH A 20% LOCAL MATCH REQUIREMENT PROVIDED \n \n BY THE PARTNER OF THE PROGRAM AND TO AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE \n \n APPLICABLE AMOUNT. whereas, the State if Georgia has mandated that CIT be adopted statewide by the end of \n \n 2007; and,
whereas, the purpose of the program is to increase public safety through innovative \n \n cross-system collaboration for individuals with mental illness who come in \n \n contact with the criminal or juvenile justice systems; and, \n \n WHEREAS, the goal of the program is to reduce the number of persons with mental \n \n illness who are booked in jail, reduce officer time in making arrests, and \n \n reduce the possibility of officer injury through using de-escalation techniques \n \n targeted toward persons with mental illness; and, \n \n WHEREAS, a 20% match is required and will be supplied by the sole source vendor \n \n and partner in this program, New Horizons.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if \n \n approved accept funds from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for the Crisis \n \n Intervention Team for $250,000, or otherwise awarded, and authorize amending \n \n the Multi-Governmental grant fund by the amount of the grant awarded and to \n \n provide for New Horizons to act as the sole source vendor in the implementation \n \n of this grant.
