A Resolution Authorizing THE CITY MANAGER TO REQUEST A TRAFFIC STUDY BY THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF \n \n TRANSPORTATION FOR I-185 FROM J.R. ALLEN/U.S. 80 SOUTH TO VICTORY DRIVE/U.S. \n \n 280 TO DETERMINE IF AN ADJUSTMENT OF THE CURRENT SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH IS \n \n NEEDED TO IMPROVE THE SAFETY OF THAT SECTION OF THE CORRIDOR. whereas, the speed limit along this corridor is currently set at 65 m.p.h.,
whereas, this Council deems it appropriate to request the Georgia Department of \n \n Transportation determine if it is appropriate to reduce the speed limit on \n \n certain sections of I-185 between J.R. Allen/U.S. 80 and Victory Drive/U.S. 280 \n \n due to the number of accidents that have been occurring,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

The City Manager is hereby requested to submit a request to the Georgia \n \n Department of Transportation to initiate a traffic study on certain segments of \n \n I-185 in Columbus-Muscogee County to determine if reducing the speed limit is \n \n appropriate. Let a copy of this resolution be submitted with the request.
