A Resolution Authorizing THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOW HUMAN RESOURCES TO ESTABLISH POSITIONS FOR TEMPORARY \n \n DRIVERS FOR THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. whereas, Public Works has been experiencing on-going staffing problems fielding \n \n sufficient drivers each day to complete waste and recycling collection. This \n \n has resulted in long term excessive over time resulting in exhausted staff and \n \n raising safety concerns; and
whereas, Hiring a pool of temporary drivers would reduce overtime costs and allow all \n \n available trucks to be utilized each day for collection resulting in better \n \n service; and
WHEREAS, The normal hiring of temporary workers through an agency is not an \n \n alternative because of the required certifications needed to handle inmates;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is authorized to direct the Human Resources Director to \n \n establish a pool of temporary drivers in Integrated Waste to be hired on an as \n \n needed basis as part time employees only.
