A Resolution Authorizing THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, ON BEHALF OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY, \n \n AND IF APPROVED ACCEPT A VOCA GRANT OF $81,740.00, FROM THE GEORGIA CRIMINAL \n \n JUSTICE COORDINATING COUNCIL ALONG WITH $47, 515.00, FROM THE FIVE PERCENT \n \n CRIME VICTIM ASSISTANCE SURCHARGE FUND ALLOCATED IN THE FY08 BUDGET, TO PROVIDE \n \n FUNDING FOR CRIME VICTIM ASSISTANCE IN THE CHATTAHOOCHEE JUDICIAL CIRCUIT FROM \n \n OCTOBER 1, 2007 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2008, and amend the Multi-Governmental \n \n Fund by like amount. whereas, The District Attorney is requesting the acceptance of a VOCA Grant in the \n \n amount of $81,740.00. The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council has allocated \n \n $81,740.00 for a twelve month period, to support innocent victims of violent \n \n crimes under the 1996 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), along with $47,515.00 from \n \n the Crime Victim Assistance Surcharge allocated in the FY08 Budget for salaries \n \n and benefits; and,
whereas, the In-Kind Match of $20,435.00 is provided from donated professional \n \n counseling services and office space, located at 100 10th Street, 1st Floor, \n \n West Wing, Columbus GA 31901. Theses figures are based on a twelve month \n \n period; and, _________
WHEREAS, the funding will be used to maintain three full time Crime victim \n \n Advocate positions, funded in the FY08 grant from the Criminal Justice \n \n Coordinating Council. Grant funding will provide crime victim assistant \n \n services in Chattahoochee County , Harris County, Marion County, Muscogee \n \n County, Talbot County, and Taylor County, which is mandated by Georgia Law; and \n \n WHEREAS, The District Attorney's Office will continue to supervise the \n \n operation of the Crime Victim Assistance Program in the Chattahoochee Judicial \n \n Circuit from October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit and if approved, \n \n accept a grant of 81,740.00 from the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating \n \n Council along with $47,515.00 of the Five Percent Surcharge allocated in the \n \n FY08 Budget to fund the Crime Victim Assistance Program which will extend over \n \n a twelve month period beginning October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008.
