A Resolution Authorizing A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF \n \n UNDERSTANDING WITH THE METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION TO INCLUDE \n \n CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY AND TO PERFORM TRANSPORTATION PLANNING ACTIVITIES \n \n THROUGHOUT THE COLUMBUS-PHENIX CITY URBAN AREA. whereas, that the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) as designated by the \n \n Governors of Georgia and Alabama is the Columbus Department of Planning. The \n \n MPO shall have the primary responsibility for carrying out the urban \n \n transportation planning process and of developing the planning work programs, \n \n transportation plan, and transportation improvement program. The last update \n \n was done in 1997 and this update is needed to include Chattahoochee County.
whereas, that the Consolidated Government of Columbus within its official jurisdiction \n \n be responsible for the following:
1. Maintain and keep current records and fiscal operations and abilities, \n \n administrative practices, and laws and ordinances that affect and concern \n \n transportation. \n \n 2. When appropriate, provide funding for right-of-way acquisition and \n \n clearance that may be required for the C-PCTS construction projects and be the \n \n agent responsible for acquiring said right-of-way. \n \n 3. Aid the MPO in developing planning-oriented preliminary engineering, \n \n right-of-way, and construction cost estimates where applicable. \n \n 4. Prepare, maintain, and fund an annual budget for the MPO's operations. \n \n
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a Memorandum of \n \n Understanding with the Metropolitan Planning Organization on behalf of the \n \n Consolidated Government of Columbus, Georgia to maintain a continuing, \n \n cooperative, and comprehensive transportation process for the urban area. The \n \n last update was done in 1997 and this update is needed to include Chattahoochee \n \n County.
