A Resolution Authorizing THE CITY MANAGE TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH THE GEORGIA POWER COMPANY FOR NEW \n \n STREET LIGHTS ALONG GATEWAY ROAD IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $36,645.00; TO \n \n EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH SHANNON, STROBEL AND WEAVER CONSTRUCTORS AND ENGINEERS, \n \n INC. TO CONSTRUCT A RIGHT TURN LANE ALONG BEAVER RUN ROAD FROM THE NORTHBOUND \n \n OFF-RAMP OF THE MANCHESTER EXPRESSWAY EAST TO THE EXISTING RIGHT TURN LANE FOR \n \n FLAT ROCK ROAD IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $46,558.00. whereas, the traffic along Gateway Road will increase significantly with the opening of \n \n the Walmart development requiring that this road segment be provided with \n \n street lighting for safety reasons; and, \n \n WHEREAS, the Georgia Power Company is the provides electrical service for this \n \n area making them the logical provider of these services; and,
whereas, the Georgia Department of Transportation recommended to the City to the \n \n existing right turn lane along the eastbound lanes of Beaver Run Road turning \n \n into Flat Rock Road be extended back to the northbound off-ramp of Manchester \n \n Expressway to aide in reducing traffic congestion; and, \n \n WHEREAS, Shannon, Strobel and Weaver Constructors and Engineers, Inc. are \n \n already performing paving work with approved permits from the Georgia \n \n Department of Transportation that allows them to begin work immediately; and,
WHEREAS, the Engineering Department reviewed both improvements recommending \n \n execution of said work.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
THAT THE CITY MANAGE IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH THE \n \n GEORGIA POWER COMPANY FOR NEW STREET LIGHTS ALONG GATEWAY ROAD IN AN AMOUNT NOT \n \n TO EXCEED $36,645.00; TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH SHANNON, STROBEL AND WEAVER \n \n CONSTRUCTORS AND ENGINEERS, INC. TO CONSTRUCT A RIGHT TURN LANE ALONG BEAVER \n \n RUN ROAD FROM THE NORTHBOUND OFF-RAMP OF THE MANCHESTER EXPRESSWAY EAST TO THE \n \n EXISTING RIGHT TURN LANE FOR FLAT ROCK ROAD IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED \n \n $46,558.00.
