A Resolution Authorizing THE APPLICATION FOR AND IF APPROVED THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF \n \n $10,000 OR AS OTHERWISE AWARDED FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF HIGHWAY SAFETY TO \n \n SUPPORT TWICE MONTHLY NIGHTTIME SPECIAL RECORDER'S COURT SESSIONS FOR DEALING \n \n WITH TEENAGE TRAFFIC OFFENDERS, WITH NO LOCAL MATCH REQUIRED, AND TO AMEND THE \n \n MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY LIKE AMOUNT. whereas, the Columbus Consolidate Government is committed to enforcing traffic laws and \n \n educating the public in highway safety, with particular emphasis on youthful \n \n offenders; and,
whereas, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety offers grants using limited National \n \n Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds to promote the development and \n \n implementation of innovative programs that address highway safety problems; \n \n and,
WHEREAS, the Recorder's Court sees the benefit of a special traffic court for \n \n dealing with youthful offenders, with night-time sessions which will aid in the \n \n participation of the offenders and their parents'; and, \n \n WHEREAS, the Recorder's Court requests approval to submit an application in the \n \n amount of $10,000 for funding to pay the personnel costs of holding two evening \n \n traffic court sessions per month, and such funding does not require a local \n \n match, and to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by like amount. The project \n \n period for such grant will run from October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit and if approved, accept a \n \n grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety in the amount of $10,000 or \n \n as otherwise awarded, with no local match requirement, and to amend the \n \n Multi-Governmental Fund by like amount.
