A Resolution Authorizing TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF APPROVED ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE GEORGIA EMERGENCY \n \n MANAGEMENT AGENCY (GEMA) THROUGH THE GEMA REGION 4 ALL HAZARDS COUNCIL TO \n \n UPGRADE THE COLUMBUS 800 MHZ RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM TO A REGIONAL HUB \n \n PROVIDING THE ABILITY TO TIE RADIO TRANSMISSION SITES FOR ADJACENT COUNTIES IN \n \n GEORGIA TO SAID RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. whereas, the Federal Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security provides grant funds \n \n through the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to local governments to improve \n \n civil preparedness and responses to man-made/natural disasters; and,
whereas, this year's grant requests specific improvements on a regional basis for GEMA \n \n Region 4 counties; and,
WHEREAS, Columbus has an opportunity to upgrade our 800 MHz Radio Communication \n \n System to function as a Regional Hub for the western GEMA Region 4 counties to \n \n develop a seamless radio coverage over multiple counties improving abilities to \n \n respond during mutual aide responses with interoperable radio communications.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if \n \n approved accept a grant on behalf of the Police Department from the Georgia \n \n Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) through the GEMA Region 4 All Hazards \n \n Council for the purpose of upgrading the Columbus 800 MHz Radio Communication \n \n System to a Regional Hub providing the ability to tie radio transmission sites \n \n for adjacent counties in Georgia to said Radio Communication System and amend \n \n the Multi-Government Fund by the amount of the award.
