A Resolution Authorizing AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE FREQUENCY RECONFIGURATION AGREEMENTS \n \n WITH SPRINT NEXTEL FOR THE PURPOSE OF SWAPPING FREQUENCIES WITH THE CITY FOR \n \n CALL SIGNS WNSK575, WPBD367 AND WPPU479 AS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL \n \n COMMUNICATION COMMISSION FOR THE NATIONAL 800 MHZ RECONFIGURATION PLAN. whereas, the Federal Communication Commission has nationally mandated a reconfiguration \n \n of 800 MHz frequencies that are interleaved within Public Safety frequencies \n \n for the purpose of eliminating frequency interference problems; and,
whereas, Sprint Nextel is the private cellular company in the southeast that is \n \n responsible for swapping frequencies with local governments and bearing the \n \n expense of this action; and,
WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission contracted with the 800 MHz \n \n Transition Administrator to administer and mediate this process; and, \n \n WHEREAS, the City and Sprint Nextel are working in a cooperative effort to \n \n accomplish the task of preparing Frequency Reconfiguration Agreements and \n \n executing them within a stringent timeline required by the 800 MHz Transition \n \n Administrator; and, \n \n WHEREAS, the Traffic Engineering Division and the City Attorney's office are \n \n working diligently to reach the Frequency Reconfiguration Agreements and have \n \n them ready for execution based on the 800 MHz Transition Administrator's \n \n deadlines.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute Frequency Reconfiguration \n \n Agreements with Sprint Nextel for the purpose of swapping frequencies with the \n \n City for call signs WNSK575, WPBD367 and WPPU479 as required by the Federal \n \n Communication Commission for the National 800 MHZ Reconfiguration Plan.
