A Resolution Authorizing TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND ACCEPT, IF AWARDED, AN FY07 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL \n \n JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE IN THE AMOUNT OF \n \n $121,012, OR AS AWARDED, FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND DRUG COURT PROJECTS AS \n \n ATTACHED, WITH NO MATCHING REQUIREMENT AND TO AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND \n \n BY LIKE AMOUNT. whereas, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant replaced the Local Law \n \n Enforcement Block Grant program beginning with federal fiscal year 2005. \n \n Eligible programs for funding fall into the categories of Law Enforcement, \n \n Prosecution and Courts, Prevention and Education, Correction and Community \n \n Correction, Drug Treatment, and Planning, Evaluation, and Technology \n \n Improvement programs, those programs chosen for funding from this grant are \n \n listed in the attached report; and,
whereas, the Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to receive $121,012 in \n \n funding, with no local match requirement; and,
WHEREAS, the application for this grant was submitted to DOJ on July 2 to meet \n \n grant deadline requirements, and the public was notified by publication of a \n \n notice in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer on July 2, but the application has been \n \n put on hold by DOJ until the 30-day public review/comment period requirement \n \n has been met and the resolution to submit the application has been approved by \n \n Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized to submit an \n \n application and if approved, accept the FY07 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice \n \n Assistance Grant in the amount of $121,012 or as otherwise awarded, and that \n \n the funds will be used by the departments listed, for the programs and amounts \n \n listed in the attached report, and to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by like \n \n amount.
