A Resolution Authorizing THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH UPTOWN \n \n COLUMBUS FOR THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER RESTORATION & WHITEWATER PROJECT. whereas, the Chattahoochee River Restoration and Whitewater Project is an effort being \n \n undertaken by Uptown Columbus for the purpose of restoring over two miles of \n \n rare Fall Line riverine habitat and a creation of whitewater surfing waves and \n \n sites for competitive events; and,
whereas, Various improvements are proposed at points along the river bank to facilitate \n \n spectator movements and viewing. These include pathways near the water's edge, \n \n stairs to access the river bed and other work to enhance viewing and lines of \n \n sight. A 150' steel pedestrian bridge is scheduled to be built between the \n \n River Walk and the rock island. Entry to the bridge will be directly from the \n \n level of the River Walk, with the bridge deck inclined only as necessary to \n \n meet the grade at the island.
WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Transportation has authorized Transportation \n \n Enhancement funding in the amount of $1,000,000.00 which will require a match \n \n of $250,000.00; and, \n \n WHEREAS, Uptown Columbus has agreed to provide the $250,000.00 match for this \n \n grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into a Memorandum of \n \n Understanding with Uptown Columbus to provide the necessary match for these \n \n grants.
