A Resolution Authorizing TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL OF GEORGIA TO FUND THE \n \n MUSCOGEE COUNTY ADULT DRUG COURT PROGRAM FOR A ONE YEAR PERIOD BEGINNING ON \n \n JULY 1, 2008. FUNDING IS DETERMINED UTILIZING A FORMULA AND THE AMOUNT IS NOT \n \n DETERMINED UNTIL THE STATE OF GEORGIA ALLOCATES FUNDS AND THE NUMBER OF \n \n ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS IS DETERMINED. AT A MINIMUM WE CAN EXPECT APPROXIMATELY \n \n $50,000 WHICH IS THE AMOUNT WE RECEIVED DURING FY08. THE GRANT DOES NOT \n \n REQUIRE MATCHING FUNDS. whereas, funds have been made available by the Judicial Council of Georgia for the \n \n continuation of Adult Felon Drug Courts; and,
whereas, the Muscogee County Adult Drug Court began operations on September 29, 2007 and \n \n has a total of 23 participants in the program as of March 5, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, this program provides a viable means by which qualified drug offenders \n \n can be released form jail, participate in an intensive rehabilitation process \n \n and upon successful completion of the program have their charges dismissed; and, \n \n WHEREAS, participants are required to pay for the cost of treatment, drug \n \n screens and an administrative fee in order to participate in the drug court \n \n program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if \n \n approved accept a grant from the Judicial Council of Georgia to continue the \n \n operation of the Muscogee County Adult Drug Court.
