In October 2006 the City Manager appointed a 10 member advisory committee to

review the Notice of Interests (NOI) submitted for proposed reuses of the

Columbus Army Reserve located on Macon Road. The advisory committee was

established by the City Manager based on the amount of public concern expressed

in public meetings over the disposition of the facility in 2011 as a result of

the BRAC recommendations . The primary purpose of the committee was to provide

a mechanism for public involvement in the process of determining the use of the

facility. The committee was charged with making a recommendation to the City

Manager on a proposed reuse of the facility.

The advisory committee met four times since December 2006 to review and discuss

each of the NOI applications. The committee also conducted an interview with

each applicant agency. Upon completion of this review process, it was the

committee's unanimous recommendation the application submitted by Columbus

State University be considered by the City for a public benefit conveyance of

the facility. Columbus State proposes relocating the Regional Police Academy

to the Army Reserve Center when the site becomes available in 2011.

Consistent with the City's commitment to the neighborhood, a public meeting

has been scheduled on March 14, 2007 2:00 p.m. at the Columbus Public Library

Auditorium to communicate the committee's recommendation and to outline the

additional steps in this process. A redevelopment plan for the proposed use

of the site must be developed and submitted to City Council for approval. A

public hearing will then be conducted prior to the final recommendation being

submitted to the Department of Defense and Department of Housing and Urban

Develoment.
