During the week of December 1-5, 2014, a team from EPA( Federal Environmental
Protection Agency) along with Ga EPD(Environmental Protection Division) will be
in Columbus to conduct a routine inspection of the City's MS4( Municipal
Separate Storm Sewer System) Program. These audits are to be done on a 5 year
rotation for all communities throughout the country that are required to be
permitted under the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System)
permit.
The teams will be assessing the City's compliance with the requirements of the
permit including implementation of the City's Storm Water Management Program.
Elements to be reviewed are monitoring steams and storm sewer system for
illicit discharges, inspection of industrial facilities, municipal facilities
such as the landfill, fleet yard, street sweeping operations, wastewater
treatment facilities, material storage areas, etc, and construction sites.
