Subject PSA for Homebuyers

Description Have the staff look at creating a Public Service Announcement for

homebuyers, to include providing information encouraging them to call the

Planning Division, as well as the 311 Center to determine if there have been

any telephone calls made surrounding problems or concerns within the area that

they are considering purchasing a home in. Also, look at publishing a flyer

that could be submitted to the real estate brokers and ask them to include it

in their home buying packages that encourages them to take responsibility to

contact the City if they are concerned about undeveloped contiguous property.

Response 8/21/07 - The staff of the Department of Community Reinvestment have

been promoting the Home Buyer Assistance Program to various groups throughout

our community (see summary attached). Staff has met with 3 City Departments

and presented the information to 71 employees which included 11 new Police

recruits. During the month of June and the Housing Fairs, we provided

information to 92 citizens at 5 different events held. Also, staff

participated with a lender and a realtor in a call-in radio show to provide

information on the home buying process. The show received approximately 50

calls in a 2 hour period.

Staff has participated with a mortgage company to meet with the staff of a

nursing home (Magnolia Manner) to promote homeownership to the staff. We

provided information to 25 employees. We have an event scheduled to

participate with a mortgage company at Columbus Regional to promote

homeownership to their staff.

We currently are planning a event to be held from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on the

Plaza of the Government Center for our City Employees. Tentatively we have

this event scheduled for late September.

We have flyers which provide information on our housing programs. We use

these fliers at the events which we participate. We have attended the Mortgage

Bankers Association meetings and have met with the Realtor's Association to

promote our programs.

We will work with Michael King, CCGTV, to produce a PSA to run on CCGTV and to

be used on the other TV stations in the Community. (JTR)
