Agenda Report # 027

TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Agreement between Auburn University - Recyclable Material

INITIATED BY: Ron Smith, Public Services Department

Recommendation: Approval is requested to execute an agreement with the Auburn

University to process recyclable material from the University.

Background: In an effort to improve the environment and renew resources,

Auburn University contacted the Recycling Division of Public Services Columbus

Consolidated Government with a request that we accept their recyclable

material. They have agreed to deliver the material to the Recycle Center

located #25, 22nd Avenue at no cost to the Columbus Consolidated Government. In

exchange, the Columbus Consolidated Government agrees to sort and recycle the

material and keep all revenue generated from the sale of recyclables.

Analysis: The recycled material will add to the recycle stream at our

recycling center and will be sold to generate revenue. The Columbus

Consolidated Government will retain all revenue generated. There will be

additional costs involved to process the material for recycling but revenue

generated will cover this cost.

Financial Considerations: Auburn University will deliver the recyclable to our

recycling center at no cost to the Columbus Consolidated Government. There will

be additional costs involved to process the material for recycling but revenue

generated will cover this cost.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: No cost to the City. Additional

revenue generated from the sale of recyclables

Legal Considerations: Agreement between Auburn University should be approved

by Columbus Council as well as Auburn University.

Recommendations/ Actions: Recommend that the Council of Columbus authorize the

City Manager to sign the agreement with Auburn University to accept recyclable

delivered to us.
