AN ORDINANCE REGULATING VEHICULAR TRAFFIC IN COLUBUS, GEORGIA BY

AMENDING CITY CODE SECTION 20-14.4 ON SIDEWALKS, ETC. BY ADDING A NEW PARAGRAPH

(E) HISTORIC DISTRICT - A PARKING ALIGNMENT IS HEREBY ESTABLISHED FOR ANY

VEHICLES PARKING BETWEEN THE STREET CURB/EDGE OF PAVING AND THE STREET

RIGHT-OF-WAY/PROPERTY LINE WITHIN THE ORIGINAL DESIGNATED HISTORIC DISTRICT OF

COLUMBUS; THAT ANY VEHICLES PARKED BETWEEN THE STREET AND THE STREET

RIGHT-OF-WAY LINE/PROPERTY LINE SHALL PARKED PERPENDICULAR TO THE STREET IN A

SINGLE LINE; SAID VEHICLES SHALL PARKED IN LINE WITH AN AUTHORIZED DRIVEWAY -

CURB CUT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING STREET GREEN SPACES; REPEALING ANY

CONFLICTING ORDINANCES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.



SECTION I.



That City Code Section 20-14.4 On Sidewalks, Etc. is hereby amended by

establishing a new paragraph (e) entitled Historic District:



Historic District. The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to the

original designated Historic District boundary that exist north of 4th Street,

west of Veterans Parkway, south of 9th Street and east of the Chattahoochee

River. In lieu thereof, it shall be unlawful within the Historic District for

any vehicle to park or stop such vehicle upon any areas between the street

curb/edge of street paving and the street right-of-way/property line except in

alignment with an existing driveway - curb cut. Any vehicles parked in this

alignment shall park in a single line and perpendicular to the street. It

shall be unlawful for any said vehicle to block any public sidewalk or for any

portion of the vehicle to protrude into the street.



SECTION II.



That the purpose of this ordinance is to better define the legal

parking area within the Historic District for vehicles parking between the

street curb/edge of street paving and the street right-of-way/property line

where unpaved driveways were previously grandfathered and do not meet current

City Codes requirements for residential and commercial driveways.



SECTION III.



That regulating parking in this manner will provide a means for

enforcing parking violations on City street rights-of-way within Historic

District and protect street green spaces.



SECTION IV.



That any ordinance or part of any ordinance that is conflict with this

ordinance is hereby repealed.
