A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Sgt. Sherri Gallagher of Fort Benning, Georgia, became the first woman
to be named the U.S. Army?s Soldier of the Year;
WHEREAS, Sgt. Gallagher competed against 10 other soldiers representing the
major commands during the ?Best Warrior? competition held from October 18-22 at
Fort Lee, Virginia;
WHEREAS, she was named the winner at a banquet after the competition and gave
credit to her sponsor, Sgt. 1st Class David Steinbach;
WHEREAS, competitors were tested on subjects such as first aide and there were
three days of field exercises including simulated battle operations;
WHEREAS, Sgt. Gallagher, a shooter/instructor for the Army Marksmanship Unit,
hopes to compete in the Olympic Games and has 21 national rifle shooting
records, including the only mother-daughter combo to ever win the National
High-Power Rifle Championship;
WHEREAS, Sgt Gallagher accomplishments are worthy of special recognition by
this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:

We hereby commend and congratulate Sgt. Sherri Gallagher of Fort Benning,
Georgia upon her being named the 2010 U.S. Army Soldier of the Year. Columbus
is proud of her accomplishments and we wish her every success in the future.
Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sgt. Sherri Gallagher.
