MINUTES # 19-11
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, May 23, 2011 at
9:00AM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann Grantham, Assessor Pat
Hunter and Assessor Derrick Shields present. Also present was Chief Appraiser
Betty J. Middleton. Assessor Scott Boyce was absent
Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to approve Min#18-11. Assessor Derrick
Shields seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to excuse Assessor Scott Boyce; Assessor
Derrick Shields seconded the motion. Motion carried.
The Board of Tax Assessors signed assessment corrections for real estate.
Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton presented to the Board the Final Certification
for the historic exemption for property located at 12 12th Street (PID 004 07
006). The Final Certification was approved by the Board to expire 2016.
The Board reviewed the application for non-taxability for PID 188 029 045.
After reviewing the application Assessor Derrick Shields made the motion to
grant tax exempt status for 2011; Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Met with Residential Appraiser Jeff Nelson, reviewed and approved the following:
2011 Map Splits: 7
2011 Revaluation: 1
Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve the 2011 values for 1820
Non-Homesteaded Permits, Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the motion, motion
carried
Assessor Derrick Shields made a motion to approve the increases for 33 tax
returns; Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried.
Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve the decreases for 34 tax
returns, the restoring of 92 tax returns and accepted the values for 45 tax
returns and also approved the values for 56 demolitions; Assessor Derrick
Shields seconded the motion, motion carried.

Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:
2011 Map Split: 7
Permits: 230
Revaluation: 2 (Condo)
Tax Returns: 25(-)
12(+)
16(Restore)
Sales: 230 ?
The Board approved one assessment correction for personal property.
The Board reviewed correspondence concerning PID 020 008 007, 004 002 003 and
005 018 001. No action was taken.
Discussed with the Board the valuation for PID 182 011 016. The Board
instructed to use the best information available to do the valuation.
The Board revisited PID 167 001 007. Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to
place a value of $540,385 on the property; Assessor Derrick Shields seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
