TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Grant

INITIATED BY: Columbus Police Department

Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into an MOU to apply for, and if

Background: The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) is administering

a reimbursement grant program aimed at supporting the usage and expansion of

advance the usage of GEARS as the preferred method of reporting traffic crash

data in the State of Georgia.

described computers will aid in the Police Department?s continuing effort to

main its Patrol fleet with modern and effective computing equipment.

Financial Considerations: The grant amount requested is $25,000.00 for the

Police Department. The City is not required to provide matching funds to

participate in this grant.

Legal Considerations: The Chief of Police will be authorize to enter into a

Memorandum of Understanding the GACP, which will require that these terminals

be purchased, installed, and operational by July 31, 2017 and to submit crash

date electronically to GDOT via GEARS through LexisNexis Inc.

Recommendation/Actions: Approval is requested to enter into an MOU to apply

for, and if approved, accept funds from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of

Police for the Columbus Police Department and to amend the Multi-Governmental

Fund by the amount of the grant awarded. The grant amount requested is

$25,000.00, or as otherwise awarded, with no local match, and will be used for

the purchase of Mobile Data computers for Police cruisers.
