A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Mayor Pro-Tem John J. ?Jack? Rodgers, Columbus Councilor for 24 years,
will be retiring at the end of December, 2006;
WHEREAS, Councilor Rodgers was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, raised
in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and became a Columbus resident in 1961;
WHEREAS, after settling in Columbus, Councilor Rodgers married the former
Barbara Riddle and had two children, and he has been blessed with four
grandchildren;
WHEREAS, Councilor Rodgers attended Columbus College (now Columbus State
University) and in 1973, received a B. S. in Business and was employed with the
Ford Motor Company for 21 years; he also taught Business and Economics at
Chattahoochee Valley Community College for 7 years; and he has worked as Chair
and CEO of the Rodgers Mortgage Company for the past 15 years;
WHEREAS, Councilor Rodgers also was selected by his peers as Mayor Pro Tem on
January 5, 1999;
WHEREAS, Councilor Rodgers has served as former Vice-Chairman of the Iron Works
Convention and Trade Center Authority; Finance Chairman of the Enrichment
Services Program; Valley Rescue Mission Board member; Columbus, Georgia Council
Ethics Committee Chairman; Budget Chairman of the Columbus Council for four
terms; member of the Georgia Municipal Association Finance Committee; Voting
Delegate to National League of Cities 1985-1987; GMA/ACCG Urban Issues
Committee member; Occupational Tax Committee Chairman from 1983-1985 and
1993-1994; President of Heritage Education Foundation; board member of Columbus
Technical College Foundation and There is HOPE Foundation; and is a former
Exchange Club member and current member of Rotary Club of Columbus;
WHEREAS, he has also traveled to our Sister City of Bistrita, Romania on
several good-will missions and is a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Mayor Pro-Tem and Councilor John J. ?Jack?
Rodgers are worthy of special recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our deep appreciation for the diligent and faithful service
of John J. ?Jack? Rodgers as Mayor Pro-Tem and Councilor of Columbus, Georgia.
Columbus is proud of his accomplishments and we wish him happiness and
contentment in his retirement. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Councilor John J. ?Jack? Rodgers.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
19th day of December, 2006, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
