SUBJECT: Adult Felony Drug Court Grant
INITIATED BY: Superior Court
Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and if
approved, accept funds from the Judicial Council of Georgia Standing Committee
on Accountability Courts for the Muscogee County Adult Felony Drug Court and to
amend the Multi-governmental Fund by the amount of the grant awarded. The exact
amount of funding awarded through this grant will not be known until the FY 11
State budget has been announced.
Background: This is a State grant that provides funding to enhance existing
drug court programs. The grant period is from July 1, 2010 through June 30,
2011.
Analysis: The Muscogee County Adult Felony Drug Court has had a positive
effect on the drug offenders and their families in our community by reducing
drug use, criminal activity and encouraging participants to become productive
members of society.
Financial Considerations: The City is not required to provide matching funds
to participate in this grant.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to
enter into a contract with the Judicial Council of Georgia for the funding of
this proposed grant.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve a resolution to authorize the City to submit
an application for, and if awarded, accept a grant from the Judicial Council of
Georgia Standing Committee on Accountability Courts for the Muscogee County
Adult Felony Drug Court Program and to amend the Multi-governmental Fund by the
amount of the grant awarded.
A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THE
MUSCOGEE COUNTY ADULT FELONY DRUG COURT AND, IF AWARDED, ACCEPT THE GRANT, OF A
DOLLAR AMOUNT TO BE DETERMINED, FROM THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL OF GEORGIA STANDING
COMMITTEE ON ACCOUNTABILITY COURTS WITH NO LOCAL MATCH REQUIREMENT AND TO AMEND
THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE AMOUNT AWARDED.
WHEREAS, funds have been made available from the Judicial Council of Georgia
Standing Committee on Accountability Courts for the purpose of funding the
Adult Felony Drug Court; and,
WHEREAS, the Adult Felony Drug Court operates on a team concept, but also, as a
community collaborative effort to address the needs of individuals involved
with drug abuse; and,
WHEREAS, the Judicial Council of Georgia Standing Committee on Accountability
Courts does not require a match; and,
WHEREAS, the dollar amount of the grant will not be determined until the
grants are awarded by the funding agency.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application for
the Muscogee County Adult Felony Drug Court and, if approved, accept funds from
the Judicial Council of Georgia Standing Committee on Accountability Courts and
to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount of the grant awarded.
