A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Georgia has enacted legislation
authorizing each county and municipality operating a public safety answering
point to impose a prepaid wireless 9-1-1 charge;
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Georgia has each such county and
municipality to impose a fee at a rate not to exceed 75 cents per retail
transaction;
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Georgia has required local
governments to maintain separate restricted revenue funds called Emergency
Telephone System Funds;
WHEREAS, revenues received by a county or municipality pursuant to O.C.G.A.
?46-5-134.2 must be deposited in the emergency telephone assistance fund
maintained by the county or municipality;
WHEREAS, imposition of the fee authorized by O.C.G.A. ?46-5-134.2 is contingent
upon the enactment of the prepaid wireless charge by ordinance or resolution by
the county or municipality.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
Section 1. 9-1-1. Fee on Prepaid Wireless Transactions
In accordance with O.C.G.A. ?46-5-134.2, there is hereby imposed a prepaid
wireless 9-1-1 charge as defined by O.C.G.A. ?46-5-134.2 (a)(4) upon every
prepaid wireless retail transaction occurring within the jurisdiction of the
public service answering point in the amount of 75 cents. The imposition of
such charges shall apply to transactions occurring in Muscogee County, Georgia
and Chattahoochee County, Georgia.
Section 2. Administrative Provisions
The Clerk of the County is hereby directed to file with the State Revenue
Commissioner a certified copy of this resolution and amendments thereto, in
accordance with O.C.G.A. ?46-5-134.2 (j)(1), within ten (10) days of enactment
of this resolution.
Section 3. Depositing of Funds
In accordance with O.C.G.A. ?46-5-134.2 (j)(5), funds collected by the Columbus
Consolidated Government under this resolution shall be deposited in and kept
separate from general revenue in the Emergency Telephone System Fund that is
maintained by the Columbus Consolidated Government pursuant to O.C.G.A.
?46-5-134.
Section 4. Repealer
All resolutions and parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are
hereby repealed.
Section 5. Effective Date
The resolution shall become effective January 1, 2012.
