Agenda Report # 72

TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Fiscal Year 2006 Homeland

Security Grant Program (HSGP), State Homeland Security Program

INITIATED BY: Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office

Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a grant of $39,255 from the

Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) for Explosive Device Response

Operations and amend the budget through increasing the Multi-Governmental Fund

216 by $39,255 or the actual amount funded.

Background: Funds have been allocated to the Georgia Emergency Management

Agency to provide equipment to be used in local jurisdictions for response to

explosive device related incidents.

Analysis: Funding of this grant will vastly improve our ability to prevent,

protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks and other

emergencies in accordance with goals and objectives of the State Strategic Plan.

Financial Considerations: The total grant request is for $39,255 and does not

require a local match.

Legal Consideration: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to

receive these funds.

Recommended/Action: Authorize the City Manager to accept a grant of $39,255

from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and amend the budget through

increasing the Multi-Governmental Fund 216 by $39,255 or the actual amount

funded.
