MINUTES



August 26, 2015



Psalmond Road Recreation Center



12:00 noon





Members Present: Carl Brown, Irene Pate, Willie Dickerson, Derrick

Greene, Vanessa Jackson



Members Absent: Tracy Belt, Bob Johnson, Mike Peacock, Andre Dye



City Staff Present: James Worsley, Teresa Snellings, Becky Glisson, Tommy

Groce, Shelley Tippens, Millie DelToro



Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Irene Pate at 12:08





Roll was taken.



With only nine (9) members sitting on the board at this time, and with five (5)

in attendance, a quorum could be held and the minutes of all past meetings were

approved. (March, April, May, June and July)



Derrick Greene?s new email address is derrickgreene@ihearmedia.com. Derrick is

also the proud parent of new baby, Reece Joseph. Mom and baby are both doing

great!



Psalmond Road Center Director, Shahra Thasher, gave an overview of the center

and programs offered including volleyball, badminton and hip hop aerobics.



Director/Staff Update



Shelley Tippens (Community Schools): School is back in and everything is back

to normal.



Millie DelToro (Community Schools): They are having a Labor Day Camp at Tillis

from 6:30 and to 6:30 pm.



September 12, 2015 is the Latino Festival and all are invited. Millie gave out

flyers to the board and asked them to let her know if they need them anywhere

as she has plenty.







Tommy Groce (Park Services): Adult Baseball League has started.



Sunday only youth baseball has started.



Big tournament Labor Day Weekend ? BSC World Series will be here with

approximately 140-160 teams.



Fall Youth Soccer program starts the first of September.



Fall Baseball registration is starting now.



Youth football started practicing.



Teresa Snellings (Recreation Services): The badminton here at Psalmond has

shown a lot of interest. It has grown so much that we are purchasing more

equipment and using more dates. It is in competition right now with Pickle

Ball that we are just introducing.



Special People Day is at West Point on October 1st.



All of the senior from all of the seniors and the TR group are going to the

Perry Fair on October 13th.



Fall Festival planning is underway and Teresa will get all of the dates to

Becky to give to the board.



Most of our facilities will close around Columbus Day weekend as we get ready

for our annual floor stripping of the centers.



Becky Glisson (Finance): We will ask our new budget analyst to be here for our

September meeting to give a report.



James Worsley (Director): We ended our outdoor pool season. It was a

successful season with a lot of challenges as you have seen in the press. We

had a lot to work through but safety is our number one priority for anything

Parks and Recreation.



We are still currently managing the Columbus Aquatic Center. We are in the

process of looking for a third party manager and still have steps to go such as

notifying the City Manager and appearing before Council.



Updates from the Board:



Willie Dickerson : Every time he comes around Shirley Winston, he gets a lot

of compliments on Antonio?s exercise program and what an awesome job he is

doing. He also gets a lot of compliments about his pinochle program also.



Irene Pate: Britt David Pottery Studio is offering classes and workshops in a

different kind of way and this is new and interesting.



James asked the board members to bring some ideas and information to the next

meeting. He would like to know what the board members would like to see at the

meetings or what they would like to do. Ideas we can do to engage the board

members and have better attendance at our meetings. What does the board want

to see? Maybe tours once a month of our facilities, or any other options the

board would like to have happen at our meetings.



With no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.



Our next meeting will be September 30th at Frank Chester Recreation Center.
