Agenda Item # 1
Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
02/06/2007
Agenda Report # 85
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: FY2008 Holiday Schedule
INITIATED BY: City Manager's Office
Recommendation: Approval is requested of the attached Holiday Schedule for the
FY2008 Budget Year. It is recommended that Monday, December 24, 2007, be
designated as the floating holiday to enhance the Christmas Holiday, which
falls on Tuesday, December 25, 2007. We also request Columbus Day be added as
an official holiday for the CCG, which will be a total of eleven (11) paid
holidays.
Background: The Holiday Schedule has historically been approved by City Council
in January or February to assist various departments and organizations in
developing their calendar schedules. All holidays are established with the
exception of the floating holiday. This year we have noted on the schedule
that the Mayor and Council will discuss including Columbus Day as a regular
holiday during the FY08 Budget process.
Analysis: The floating holiday has traditionally been used to extend a date
specific holiday (Independence Day, Christmas or New Year's Day) to provide a
long weekend for employees. This year Christmas Day is on Tuesday, December
25, 2007; therefore, we are recommending Monday, December 24, 2007 be
designated as the floating holiday.
Alternatives: The floating holiday could be designated to follow a day
specific holiday, for example, extending the holiday weekend or adding Good
Friday, April 6, 2008, or Columbus Day, if it is not approved as a regular
holiday, as an option. The floating holiday could also be designated to
recognize some other event or occasion.
Financial Considerations: None
Recommendation: Approval is requested of the attached Holiday Schedule for the
FY2008 Budget designating Monday, December 24, 2007, as the floating
holiday. We also request Columbus Day be added as an official holiday for the
CCG, which will be a total of eleven ( 11) paid holidays.
