A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM AT&T IN SUPPORT OF
"THE DREAM LIVES," DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. (MLK) COMMEMORATION EVENT.
WHEREAS, the Mayor's Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity (?the
Commission?), has a history of hosting an annual commemorative event to
celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and,
WHEREAS, the Commission seeks to renew the spirit of the MLK legacy to meet the
challenges of today and to broaden the draw of citizen participants from all
ages, races and walks of life through "The Dream Lives," MLK Commemorative
Event, where the Columbus, Georgia community will participate in a Unity
Processional to the Liberty Theatre and, there, join in the celebration of the
MLK legacy with local speakers and entertainment; and,
WHEREAS, corporate sponsor AT&T has stepped forward to support this MLK
Commemorative Event of speakers and entertainment.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the Mayor, City Manager and Finance Director are hereby authorized to
accept a gift of $5,000 from AT&T as well as any other gifts made in support of
the 2019 MLK commemorative event and to expend monies to cover said expenses of
the event approved by the Commission and the Mayor, but in no event in excess
of amounts received in donation from AT&T and other donors. Any donated amounts
in excess of the costs of the MLK commemorative event will be retained in a
designated account of the Commission to be used for similar events sponsored by
the Commission in future years.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the

affirmative vote of _______ members of said Council.
