RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, Lambda Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Columbus, GA)
was named the Graduate Chapter of the Year for the State of Georgia for
2008-2009;
WHEREAS, the members of Lambda Iota awarded over $16,000 in Scholarships to
high school seniors in 2008 and conducted several Voter Registration Drives
during 2008 registering over 250 voters;
WHEREAS, the Lambda Iota Chapter was honored and recognized by Georgia?s
Department of Transportation for their Adopt-A-Highway clean-up efforts for
2008 and also donated school supplies to over 300 students at the 33rd Annual
Summerfest, an Educational and Health Expo;
WHEREAS, Lambda Iota conducts a local Talent Hunt, allowing those students in
the Performing Arts an opportunity to show case their talents at the local,
state, district and national level;
WHEREAS, Lambda Iota conducts a Youth Mentoring program, mentoring and
encouraging young men to become productive and active citizens of their
families and communities and continues to provide positive images in the
community by assisting needy families in the Columbus and surrounding area by
providing Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts needy families;
Whereas Lambda Iota members were recently named Omega Man of the Year for the
State and the 7th District (GA,FL,AL & MS), Marvin Broadwater, Sr. (GA, 07-08),
and Jeffery Gibson as the Omega Man of the Year for the 7th District 2009-2010;
WHEREAS, military members (Ft. Benning) of Lambda Iota have made significant
sacrifices by participating in the War on Terrorism with deployments and
continue to give of themselves by Uplifting their communities through the many
outreach programs of Lambda Iota;
WHEREAS, members of Lambda Iota chapter include the late A. J. McClung (Past
Mayor of Columbus), Georgia State Representative Calvin Symre, City Manager,
Isaiah Hugley, the late Douglas Rowland (Coach), Columbus Bank and Trust
Executives Robert Anderson and Eddie Roberts, Muscogee County Solicitor General
Ben Richardson, Muscogee County Marshall Greg Countryman, Urban League Director
& CEO Reginald Pugh, Real Estate Entrepreneur Travis Chambers and many other
prominent past and present Principals, Educators, Dentists, Lawyers, members of
the Armed Services (active & retired) and Civic Leaders of the Greater
Columbus, GA and surrounding area.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Lambda Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi,
Fraternity, Inc. upon being named the 2008-2009 Graduate Chapter of the Year by
the Georgia State Organization of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Columbus is
proud of the Chapter?s accomplishments and we wish it?s members much success in
the future. Let a copy of this resolution be forward to Lambda Iota?s members.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
26th day of May, 2009, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
