A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, America?s Promise Alliance, a children?s advocacy group, has recently

named Columbus as one of ?The 100 Best Communities for Young People?;



WHEREAS, this distinction has been bestowed upon Columbus after a

competition including more than 750 communities from all 50 states;



WHEREAS, Columbus, Georgia?s application highlighted programs along

with community agencies such as the Youth Advisory Council, Family Connection,

Columbus Sports Council, the tutorial partnership between Brookstone School and

Fox Elementary, and the Partners in Education Program between the Greater

Columbus Chamber of Commerce and Muscogee County School District;



WHEREAS, Columbus competed among areas including Hollywood, Florida, Chicago,

Illinois and Lexington, Kentucky and was the only city in Georgia to be

recognized;



WHEREAS, former Secretary of State Colin Powell was Chairman of America?s

Promise Alliance and his wife, Alma Powell, chairs the organization today;



WHEREAS, Cammy Currie, Assistant Director of Columbus Parks and Recreation,

Dana Weiler of the Columbus Department of Parks and Recreation and Deputy City

Manager Lisa Goodwin are to be commended for their work promoting Columbus in

this competition.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate Cammy Currie, Assistant Director and Dana

Weiler of Columbus Parks and Recreation and Deputy City Manager Lisa Goodwin

upon winning a spot for Columbus in ?The 100 Best Communities for Young People?

competition sponsored by America?s Promise Alliance. Let a copy of this

resolution be forwarded to Cammy Currie, Assistant Director of Columbus Parks

and Recreation, Dana Weiler and Deputy City Manager Lisa Goodwin.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the

6th day of March, 2007, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
