Subject Demolition Process
Description When the staff brings the demolition process presentation to a
Work Session, let?s try to bring together some people who have been affected by
this process so that we can hear from them to make sure they clearly understand
what?s required of them and they are able to read it in laymen?s terms, as well
as understand what they have to do to bring their property up to code. (Request
of Councilor Hunter)

Response Once we have identified a structure for the demolition process, we
send the owner a notice of a hearing, which is held once a month (see att.
"demo hearing notice"). This letter includes a list of deficiencies & a
demolition process continuum (see att. "demo continuum" & "deficiencies,
sample"). At the hearing, staff reviews with the owner their plans for the
structure & the time table for same. The owner is given a letter giving him 45
days to repair or demolish structure (see att. "demo 45 day notice") which
includes another copy of the demo continuum & another list of the
deficiencies. Staff also offers at the hearing, to meet the owner at the
jobsite to physically review the required repairs with the owner.
