MINUTES # 45-09
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, December 14, 2009 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Lawton Grantham, Assessor
Richard Stallings, Assessor Ann Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also
present was Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton.
Assessor Richard Stallings made the motion to approve Min#44-09; Assessor
Lawton Grantham seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board signed assessment corrections for real estate.
Met Mr. Johnson regarding the valuation of his vehicle. Mr. Johnson said he
purchased his car off the Internet for slightly over $12,000, but the mileage
was about double what is estimated for normal mileage. The State valuation is
$6,120 or fair market value of $15,300. The Board showed Mr. Johnson that the
State valuation has decreased each year for the past 3 years. After discussion
Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to reduce the valuation to an assessed
value of $5,000 or a fair market value of $12,500, Assessor Richard Stallings
seconded the motion, motion carried.
Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:

Met with Personal Property Division Manager Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved
the following
Assessment Corrections: 2(+)

Appeals: 1(-)
Pers Prop Div Mgr Oliver Juhan apprised the Board of a pending conference call
with the people from Cessna regarding an audit of their personal property.
Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton shared with the Board responses from Code &
Enforcement Division and Occupation Tax Division regarding tracking non-profit
organizations. Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton will keep the Board advised of
progress.
