Agenda Report # 13
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Landscaping Improvements At I-185 and Victory Drive
INITIATED BY: Planning Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement
(MOA) with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for general
maintenance improvements to the interchange at I-185 and Victory Drive.
Background: In 2011, the City, GDOT and Gateways Columbus completed the
revamping of the I-185 and Victory Drive interchange. This beautification
effort has become a major focal point for locals and visitors as they travel to
and from Fort Benning.
Analysis: As with projects of this type, general maintenance is required on an
annual basis to replace trees, missing and dead plants, and to provide
additional irrigation where needed. This grant will allow the city and
Gateways Columbus to maintain and upgrade necessary landscaping items at this
interchange.
Financial Considerations: GDOT will provide $205,000 as a one time grant for
these general maintenance items. No match is required from the city to receive
these funds.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The City will be responsible for
future maintenance of this interchange.
Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the MOA as
to form.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager
to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Georgia Department of
Transportation (GDOT) for general maintenance improvements to the interchange
at I-185 and Victory Drive.
