MINUTES # 28-09
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, August 3, 2009 at
9:00AM with Assessor Lawton Grantham, Assessor Richard Stallings, Assessor Ann
Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief Appraiser
Betty J. Middleton. Chairman William Braxton was absent.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#27-09; Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to excuse Chairman William Braxton; Assessor
Ann Grantham seconded it, motion carried.
The Board reviewed a certified letter received with a metered date of July 16,
2009 and delivered and signed for by our postal clerk on July 17, 2009.
According to GA Code
48-5-311(e)(2)(A)(2)(C) any written notice of appeal mailed is deemed to be
filed as of the date of the United States Postal Service postmark on such
appeal. After review and in accordance with the Board?s policy, the Board
deemed the letter of appeal late.
Met with Residential Division Manager Bob O?Brien to review and approve the

The Board requested Com Div Mgr Linda King to draft a letter for the Board of
Tax Assessors requesting information from the Development Authority.

Met with Personal Property Division Manager Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved
the following:
Appeals: 8(-)
Assessment Correction: 1(-)
Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton apprised the Board of her trip with Earl Jones
of the Tax Commissioner?s Office carrying the tax digest to the Department of
Revenue in Atlanta and the approval of the digest.
