SUBJECT: Learn to Swim donations and/or sponsorships



INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation





Recommendation: Authorize the Columbus Parks and Recreation to accept

donations for the duration of the program in the form of gift certificates,

check, and cash from sponsors and individuals for the purpose of aiding the

Learn to Swim Program that is currently starting at the Columbus Aquatic

Center. 100% of the money will spent on any items or materials needed for the

swim program.



Background: The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department applied for and

received a grant to run a Learn to Swim program for kindergarten aged children

to learn to swim at the Columbus Aquatic Center. While the grant covers part

of the expenses, additional funds through sponsorships and donations will help

with this program that teaches children to swim that might not otherwise have

the opportunity to do so.



Analysis: Columbus Parks and Recreation provides a site and administration of

the Learn to Swim Program. The Grant will fund other things such as staff,

supplies, etc. The donations requested of money and supplies are provided by

sponsors and individuals.



Financial Considerations: Donations will be provided by sponsors and

individuals.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None are expected.



Legal Considerations: Approval of Council is required to receive any donations

to this program.



Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution authorizing Columbus Parks and

Recreation to collect donations for the Learn to Swim Program.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING COLUMBUS PARKS AND RECREATION TO ACCEPT DONATIONS IN

THE FROM OF GIFT CERTIFICATES, CHECK AND CASH FROM SPONSORS AND INDIVIDUALS FOR

THE LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM THAT IS A CURRENT PROGRAM HOLD AT THE COLUMBUS

AQUATIC CENTER.

WHEREAS, the Columbus Aquatic Center Learn to Swim mission is ?To create

lifelong participants in aquatic activities for their health, safety, enjoyment

and career opportunities.? Columbus Parks and Recreation will partner with

the Muscogee County School District to help children in this program develop

their swimming and water safety skills.

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department and the Muscogee County School

District recognize the need for Learn to Swim programs. These donations and

sponsorships will be used to help teach kindergarten students the necessary

water safety and swimming skills.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Columbus Parks and Recreation is authorized to accept donations for the

duration of the program in the form of gift certificates, check, and cash from

sponsors and individuals for the Learn to Swim Program currently held at the

Columbus Aquatic Center.



Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held

the day of 2015, and adopted at said

meeting by the affirmative vote of members of said

Council.
