SUBJECT: Buena Vista Road Corridor Study (Wynnton Road to Illges Road)
Contract

Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a contractual agreement
with the Georgia Department of Transportation to accept State L230
Transportation funds to conduct a study of the Buena Vista Road Corridor from
Wynnton Road to Illges Road.
Background: Buena Vista Road is a major east / west arterial. This corridor
was programmed in the Transportation Improvement Program in the early 90's for
widening from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes. During the past several years,
the traffic volumes have decreased along this section of Buena Vista Road and
requires that a new study be performed.
Analysis: The completion of this study will determine what type of
improvements will need to be made to this section of Buena Vista Road.
Financial Considerations: Cost of the study is $60,000.00 and will be funded
through the use of State L230 transportation funds ($48,000.00), which requires
a 20 percent match ($12,000.00). The 20% local match has been identified in
the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The study will determine future
improvements to this corridor. Costs associated with this project will be
determined at a later date.
Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has approved this action.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager
to enter into a contractual agreement with the Georgia Department of
Transportation to accept State L230 Transportation Funds to conduct a study on
the Buena Vista Road Corridor.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA TO ENTER INTO A
CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT
A TRANSPORTATION STUDY ALONG BUENA VISTA ROAD FROM WYNNTON ROAD TO ILLGES ROAD.
WHEREAS, a study will be performed on Buena Vista Road from Wynnton Road to
Illges Road to determine if improvements are needed for this roadway; and,
WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Transportation has authorized State L230
funding for the Buena Vista Road Corridor Study in the amount of $48,000.00 for
this study, which requires a local match of twenty (20) percent; and,
WHEREAS, the local match of $12,000.00 has been identified in the Capital
Improvement Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into a contractual
agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to accept funding of
$48,000 with a $12,000 local match to conduct a Transportation Study along
Buena Vista Road from Wynnton Road to Illges Road.
