SUBJECT: Fiscal Year 2009 Homeland Security Grant Program
INITIATED BY: Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office
Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application, and if
approved, accept a grant in the amount of $7,438, or the approved amount, from
the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the Department of Homeland Security
Fiscal Year 2009 Homeland Security Grant Program/State Homeland Security
Program and amend the Multi-Government Fund by the award of the grant.
Background: Funds have been allocated to the State of Georgia to prevent,
protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major
disasters, and other emergencies in accordance with the goals and objectives of
the State Strategic Plan. Muscogee County is eligible for $7,438.
Analysis: The funds will be used to enhance the Muscogee County Sheriff?s
Office Explosive Detection Canine Program.
Financial Considerations: The grant is for $7,438, or the amount approved,
with no matching funds. The funds will be used to provide supplies and
equipment to the Explosive Detection Canine Program.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: This grant will be funded one time
only and will have no annual fiscal impact.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government has been notified
of its eligibility to receive the funds.
Recommendations/ Actions: Authorize to submit an application, and if approved,
accept a grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the Department
of Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2009 Homeland Security Grant Program/State
Homeland Security Grant Program and amend the Multi-Government Fund by the
award of the grant.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, AND IF
AWARDED, ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE GEORGIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY FOR THE
MUSCOGEE COUNTY SHERIFF?S OFFICE TO FUND THE PURCHASE OF SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT
FOR THE EXPLOSIVE DETECTION CANINE PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Columbus is eligible for $7,438; and,
WHEREAS, the grant period runs from August 21, 2009 to May 30, 2011.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit, and if approved, accept a
grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for $7,438, or the amount
approved, to fund the Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office purchase of supplies and
equipment for the Explosive Detection Canine Program and amend the
Multi-Government Fund by the award of the grant.
