Response We received the project agreement signed by the Georgia DOT this week
meaning we are authorized to begin the design phase of this project. We
anticipate completing the design work with approvals from the DOT by 1st
quarter 2007 & to place bids plus award construction contracts by June 30,
2007. The actual project construction will take between 12 to 18 months.
Hence, Traffic Coordination Center with all signal system connected should be
completed between July to December 2008. The Traffic Coordination Center will
become active as soon as the first signal system is connected & will operate
continually as the remaining signal systems are added.
The design phase will develop a Master Plan for us to use in building the
Traffic Coordination Center with all types of intelligent transportation
devices. The first priority will be to connect all signal systems to the
Center. The next priority will be to provide Camera Systems to cover all
signal systems, Thirdly, will be to designate locations for overhead Changeable
Message Signs to warn motorists of traffic accidents, severe congestion, etc.
There are many other components to consider with funding being the only
restriction. The Master Plan will give us a direction & priority of devices to
install as funding allows over the next five to ten years.
