Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
11/07/2006
Agenda Report # 50
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Surplus Property - Whitesville Road Right-of-Way
INITIATED BY: Engineering Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested to execute a Quit Claim Deed to
the adjacent property owner, Beck Office Building LLC, of a segment of
Whitesville Road Right-of-way in front of 5729 Whitesville Road consisting of
approximately 547 square feet, more specifically defined by referenced survey,
from the "Official Street Map, City of Columbus, Georgia" and declaring it
surplus.
Background: Whitesville Road, part of the DOT Veterans Parkway Widening
Project required additional right-of-way beginning at the northwest curb of
Veterans Parkway and ending up in the center of the parcel at 5729 Whitesville
Road. The existing sign was in place prior to the widening project is now in
conflict with the City's Sign Ordinance.
A resolution will be presented at the second reading of this ordinance
authorizing quit claiming said right-of-way to the adjacent property owner.
Analysis: The deletion of this right-of-way does not cause any problems with
the operation of traffic along this section of Whitesville Road.
Financial Considerations: The deeding of referenced right-of-way will not
include any exchange of funds.
Legal Considerations: The deletion of City Right-of-Way from the "Official
Street Map, City of Columbus, Georgia." requires Council approval.
Recommendations/ Actions: Council is requested to approve the attached
ordinance deleting a segment of Whitesville Road Right-of-way in front of 5729
Whitesville Road consisting of approximately 547 square feet, more specifically
defined by referenced survey, from the "Official Street Map, City of Columbus,
Georgia" and declaring it surplus.
