A RESOLUTION

No.



WHEREAS, Rev. Howard H. Mott, Sr. of Columbus died on August 5, 2006 at his

home;



WHEREAS, Rev. Mott was born October 16, 1920 in Sylvester, Georgia and

served in the U.S. Army during World War II (Europe) and discharged in 1946

with the rank of Captain;



WHEREAS, he then worked for Southern Foods as a salesman and sales manager;



WHEREAS, in 1963, he opened a mission for homeless and needy people at 2nd

Avenue and 29th Street known as Valley Rescue Mission;



WHEREAS, in 1964, he was named Director of the Valley Rescue Mission and served

in that position until his retirement in 1989;



WHEREAS, he was the Chaplain for the Exchange Club of Columbus for seventeen

years, former President of the South Eastern District of Rescue Missions and

was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church;



WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Frances Voight Mott; one daughter Ann Mott

Kirby and son-in-law Ben of Hamilton, Ga.; three sons, Howard H. Mott, Jr. and

daughter-in-law Pam of Birmingham, Al.; Gary S. Mott and daughter-in-law Cathy

of Oakwood, Ga.; and Rev. Father David W. Mott and daughter-in-law Bonnie

Catherine of Ball Ground, Ga.; one sister, Erma Donahoo of Columbus, Ga., eight

grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of

Rev. Howard H. Mott, Sr. His dedication to the homeless and disadvantaged

citizens in the Columbus community will long be remembered. Let a copy of this

resolution be forwarded to the family of Rev. Howard H. Mott, Sr.

29th day of August, 2006, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote
