A RESOLUTION

NO.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Regional Tennis Association (CORTA), formerly known as

the Columbus Tennis Patrons was originally founded in 1952 and helped

contribute money to build the original 12 courts at Cooper Creek Tennis Center;



WHEREAS, together with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, CORTA

raised over $250.000 from 1990-1993 and one of the largest public clay court

facilities in the South was opened in 1993;



WHEREAS, CORTA recently raised $1.2 million dollars which was combined with

$600,000 dollars from the City budget to complete the stadium court and

additional ten-court project and CORTA was recognized in 2002 as the USTA

Member Organization of the Year;



WHEREAS, CORTA recently sponsored the Southern Senior Cup Invitational and the

USTA Georgia Senior League Championships;



WHEREAS, CORTA functions as a non-profit organization dedicated to the

promotion, development and support of tennis in our region;



WHEREAS, CORTA promotes the USTA Schools Program, Junior Team Tennis, manages

the adult, junior, senior and mixed leagues and sponsors regional and national

tournaments;



WHEREAS, CORTA could not accomplish its mission without the aid of hundreds of

volunteers;



WHEREAS, the accomplishments of CORTA and its many volunteers are worthy of

special recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate CORTA and its many volunteers for their

outstanding work in the promotion of tennis for the Columbus community and the

region. Columbus is proud of CORTA?s accomplishments and we wish them every

success in the future. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to CORTA.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the

8th day of July, 2008, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
