RESOLUTION

NO.

WHEREAS, Judge Aaron Cohn, retired Senior Judge of the Juvenile Court of

Muscogee County, died at his home in Columbus, Georgia on July 4, 2012;

WHEREAS, Judge Cohn was born on March 3, 1916 in Columbus, son of the late Sam

and Etta Cohn;

WHEREAS, he attended Columbus High School and his beloved University of

Georgia, where he was captain of the Bulldog Tennis Team;

WHEREAS, during World War II, he served in the 3rd Infantry Division under

General George Patton, survived the Battle of the Bulge, earned a Bronze Star,

participated in the liberation of a Nazi concentration camp at Ebensee, Austria

and retired as Colonel in the U.S. Army;

WHEREAS, Judge Cohn took the helm in Juvenile Court in 1965, and though he

later practiced law with his son, Leslie, he devoted himself to the Court and

to changing the lives of young people--he would serve the Juvenile Court for 46

years;

WHEREAS, he service also included former President of Temple Israel, Chairman

of the March of Dimes, Executive Board of Pop Warner football programs,

Physical Council for the Y.M.C.A., volunteer tennis coach at Columbus High

School, Past President of the Columbus Bar Association; past Commander of the

Military Order of the World Wars, past President of the Muscogee Lions Club and

past President of the Council of Juvenile Court Judges;

WHEREAS, he received numerous awards, including the Livingston Citizen Soldier

of the Year Award from the U.S. Army, the Jim Woodruff Jr. Memorial Ward for

?continuous service to mankind?, and a 2003 Doctorate of Human Letters from

Columbus State University;

WHEREAS, in 2005, the University of Georgia honored Judge Cohn with the ?Bill

Hartman Award,? one of the highest honors bestowed upon a former athlete;

WHEREAS, in 2008, the State Bar of Georgia honored him with the Tradition of

Excellence Award for service to the legal profession;

WHEREAS, Judge Cohn is survived by Gail Cohn (Harvey Danits) of Atlanta, GA;

Jane Cohn Kulbersh (David) of Columbia, SC; Leslie Cohn (Bonnie) of Columbus,

GA; six grandsons, Howie (Kim) Rosenberg, David (Sheri) Rosenberg, Eliot

Rosenberg, Jonathan (Sara Citron) Kulbersh, Al (Tracy) Cohn, Seth (Valerie)

Cohn and two granddaughters, Leslie (Aaron) Lipson and Melissa (Shawn) Baldwin.

NOW THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS. GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:

We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of

Judge Aaron Cohn. His service to the Columbus community, his state and his

country will long be remembered. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to

the family of Judge Aaron Cohn.
