Response 06/09/08 - Staff met with Reverend Brad Carpenter today to discuss
this issue. The meeting consisted of showing him examples of what the sign
could look like as a monument sign and as a pole sign (these drawings have been
included in the packet to Council this week). Rev. Carpenter also presented a
rendering he had prepared, showing what the sign could look like as a monument
sign. Our discussion centered upon allowing a monument sign no higher than six
feet, with a pedestal base of a maximum height of 24 inches. In addition, the
sign is to be located a minimum of ten feet back from the right of way, and the
church will provide landscaping around the base. Staff is also recommending
that there be only one sign allowed on this site.
Requiring this sign to be a monument sign should lessen the potential impact of
the height and of the use of the LED. A rendering of what the sign could look
like when completed is attached. - RJ
