MINUTES # 21-11
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, June 6, 2011 at
9:00AM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann Grantham, Assessor Pat
Hunter, Assessor Derrick Shields and Assessor Scott Boyce present. Also present
was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.
Assessor Derrick Shields made a motion to approve Min#19-11 & 20-11. Assessor
Pat Hunter seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board of Tax Assessors signed assessment corrections for real estate.
Met with Attorney Lomax regarding possible litigation.
Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:
Multiyear Map Splits: 2
Value Adjustment: 1
The Board signed updated and corrected summary reports for commercial sales and
permits.
Com Div Chief Linda King presented 1-? pages of value corrections for their
signature to bring back years current, but the assessment corrections were not
completed. The Board instructed her to present the list with the values and
assessment corrections at next week?s meeting for their approval.
The Board gave Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton a directive to have all back
year map splits completed by July 15, 2011, unless the problem is beyond our
control.
Assessor Scott Boyce exited the meeting at 10:35AM.
Met with Pers Prop Div Mgr Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved the following:

Pers Prop Div Mgr Oliver Juhan discussed with the Board receiving personal
property returns by overnight mail and cited regulations from the DOR on Income
Tax Returns and Sales and Use Tax Returns and also referred to Georgia Code
48-5-311(n) for tax appeals. After discussing and the submission of a tracking
sheet for pers prop accounts P0486601 and X9900501, Assessor Ann Grantham made
a motion to accept pers prop returns sent by overnight mail as timely, Assessor
Derrick Shields seconded the motion; motion carried.
The Board said they would discuss this issue next week with the full Board
present and if necessary create a policy.
