Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
01/10/2017
Agenda Report #_____
To: Mayor and Council
Subject: Position Reclassifications within the Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office
Initiated by: Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office
Recommendation: Approve an ordinance to authorize temporary and permanent
reclassifications effective January 10, 2017 in the Muscogee County Sheriff?s
Office.
Background: Due to the desired staffing reorganization within the Muscogee
County Sheriff?s Office by the newly elected Sheriff, approval is being
requested to reclassify certain positions within the office on a permanent and
temporary basis.
Analysis: The reclassification of two Deputy Sheriff positions are on a
temporary basis only and will revert back to Deputy Sheriff positions once
designated positions become available. The other reclassifications are
permanent position changes. The temporary and permanent changes are as follows:
Temporary position reclassification for position 9049; Job Title: From Deputy
Sheriff to Major; Pay Grade/Salary: From P14D $37,097.39 to P23G $72,252.47.
Temporary position reclassification for position 5025; Job Title: From Deputy
Sheriff to Jail Commander; Pay Grade/Salary: From P14D $37,097.39 to P23E
$68,770.93.
Reclassification for position 2002; Job Title: From Lieutenant to Captain; Pay
Grade/Salary: From P120N $63,860.64 to P22H $67,093.59.
Two Pay Steps Increase for position 301; Job Title: Chief Deputy Sheriff; Pay
Grade/Salary: From P24D $74,058.77 to P24F $77,807.99.
Financial Considerations: The salary increases from these changes will be
budget neutral due to anticipated salary savings that will be achieved by not
filling funded, vacant positions.
Legal Considerations: An ordinance is required to reclassify a position.
Recommendations/Actions: Approve an ordinance to authorize temporary and
permanent reclassifications in the Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office at the
request of the newly elected Sheriff.
