A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, this Council is in the process of studying options for renovation or

replacement of the current Government Center building at the county site in

Columbus, Georgia;



WHEREAS, Chapter 4 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated sets

petition and referendum requirements to relocate a county site;



WHEREAS, this Council deems it appropriate to seek relief from the mandate of

voter petition and referendum in the case of a consolidated government which

desires to relocate a county site.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby respectfully request that the local legislative delegation to the

Georgia General Assembly introduce legislation adding a new code section to

Chapter 4 of Title 36 so as to clarify that the requirements of that Chapter

are not applicable to consolidated governments.



Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded by the Clerk of Council to each

member of the local delegation to the Georgia General Assembly.
