SUBJECT: Fire/EMS Salary Savings
INITIATED BY: Columbus Fire and EMS Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested to transfer $350,000 of the FY16 Fire
and EMS salary savings to Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical
Services FY17 budget for burn building land prep, control room and open
pavilion for state required training.
Background: The Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services is
in the process of having the burn building constructed and is in need of funds
to prepare the soil for the burn building and a control room with attached open
pavilion to continue state required training. Current burn building training
(state required) is being conducted off site (Ft Benning, Harris County etc.)
Analysis: Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services is
requesting this money to be set rolled over to the FY17 budget for this
specific purpose.
Financial Considerations: The amount of $350,000 is requested to be rolled over
to the FY17 budget.
Legal Considerations: Council approval is required to roll the funds over to
the Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services FY17 budget.
Recommendation/Action: Approval is requested to transfer $350,000 of the
FY16 Fire and EMS salary savings to Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency
Medical Services FY17 budget for burn building land prep, control room and open
pavilion for state required training.
A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Columbus Council approved the FYl6 Operating Budget on June 16, 2015;
and,
WHEREAS, the FY16 Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services
budget has a salary savings as of June 1, 2016 is $350,000; and,
WHEREAS, in accordance with Ordinance #15-24, Department of Columbus Fire and
Emergency Medical Services appeared before Council on June 7, 2016 and
requested the salary saving be utilized for burn building land prep, control
room and open pavilion for state required training.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
That the Department of Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services is hereby
appropriated up to $350,000 for the funding of the capital and equipment
itemized. The appropriate amount will be transferred.
