SUBJECT: Fiscal Year 2013 Homeland Security Grant Program
INITIATED BY: Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office
Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and, if
approved, accept a grant in the amount of $3,000, or the approved amount, from
the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the Department of Homeland Security
Fiscal Year 2013. Approval is a also request to amend the Multi-Governmental
Fund by the amount awarded.
Background: Funds have been allocated to the State of Georgia to prevent,
protect against, respond and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters,
and other emergencies in accordance with the goals and objectives of the State
Strategic Plan. Muscogee County is eligible for $3,000.
Analysis: Fund will be used to sustain the Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office
Explosive Detection Canine Program.
Financial Considerations: Grant is for $3,000, or the amount approved, with no
matching funds. Funds will be used to provide supplies and equipment to the
Explosive Detection Canine Program.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: This grant will be funded one time
only, and will have no annual fiscal impact.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government has been notified
of its eligibility to receive the funds.
Recommendations/ Actions: Authorize to submit an application and, if
approved, accept a grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the
Department of Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2013 Homeland Security Grant
Program/State Homeland Security Grant Program.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND, IF
AWARDED, ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE GEORGIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY FOR THE
MUSCOGEE COUNTY SHERIFF?S OFFICE TO FUND THE PURCHASE OF SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT
FOR THE EXPLOSIVE DETECTION CANINE PROGRAM AND AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL
FUND BY THE AMOUNT AWARDED.
WHEREAS, Columbus is eligible for $3,000; and,
WHEREAS, the grant period runs from September 1, 2013 to April 30, 2015.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit an
application and, if approved, accept a grant from the Georgia Emergency
Management Agency for $3,000, or the amount approved, with no matching funds,
for the Muscogee County Sheriff?s Office to purchase supplies and equipment for
the Explosive Detection Canine Program, and amend the multi-governmental fund
by the amount awarded.
