Agenda Report # 137

TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Knight Cities Challenge Grant Acceptance

INITIATED BY: Planning Department

Recommendation: Accept Knight Cities Challenge Grant in the amount of $6,900

with no local match required, and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the

amount of the award.

Background The Urban Glens project was one of several applications submitted

to the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation on behalf of the City of Columbus

and its various departments. The project idea is to activate unused spaces in

civic areas and parks by constructing areas specially designed for hammocks.

These areas will allow the installation of hammocks without damage to trees.

The project was selected as one of the winners and the Knight Foundation has

approved the release of a grant to the City of Columbus in the amount of $6,900

to implement the project idea and document the process.

Analysis: As part of the grant application process, a budget was created that

will cover the costs of materials and labor. No additional funding will be

required.

Financial Considerations: The project will be fully funded by the grant amount

and all required steps will be taken to meet grant funding requirements.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The grant will be released to the

City of Columbus within 60 days of receiving approval from City Council and

receipt of the signed grant contract.

Legal Considerations: Grant requirements and contract have been approved by

City Attorney

Recommendations/ Actions: Accept Knight Cities Challenge Grant in the amount of

$6,900 with no local match required, and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by

the amount of the award.
