Subject: (ZC0708-7) Request to amend the text of the Unified Development
Ordinance to permit schools, vocational and non-academic, in the CRD (Central
Riverfront District), NC (Neighborhood Commercial), GC (General Commercial), RO
(Residential-Office), and CO (Commercial-Office) zoning districts as a
principal use.
April Hocutt is requesting that schools, vocational and non-academic, be
amended and permitted in the CRD (Central Riverfront District), NC
(Neighborhood Commercial), GC (General Commercial), RO (Residential-Office),
and CO (Commercial-Office) zoning districts as a principal use. These schools
are currently allowed in UPT, LMI, HMI, and TECH.
The Planning Advisory Commission considered this text amendment at their
meeting on September 19, 2007. The Planning Advisory Commission recommended
that this text change be approved.
The Planning Department recommends approval.
Attached is a copy of the Planning Department?s Staff Report.

PROPOSED TEXT AMMENDMENT
The Unified Development Ordinance is hereby amended by amending the following
use to Table 3.1.1. Permitted, Special Exception and Prohibited Uses:

The Unified Development Ordinance is hereby amended by amending the following
definition to Section 13.1.1, Defined Terms:
School, vocational and non-academic means a school that provides regularly
scheduled classes and instruction in business, commercial, self-improvement,
technical, and vocational subjects, including automotive and aircraft
mechanical and technological skills; building and construction trades; business
skills; computer technology; electronics; medical and dental technologies;
personal services, such as art, music, or karate schools and so forth; and
related crafts and skills.
PLANNING ADVISORY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
The Planning Advisory Commission considered this text amendment at their
meeting on September 19, 2007. The Planning Advisory Commission recommended
approval.
PLANNING DIVISION RECOMMENDATION
The Planning Department recommends approval.
