SUBJECT: FY 19 Local Government & Improvement Grant (LMIG)



INITIATED BY: Engineering Department





Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and

accept the FY 19 Local Government & Improvement Grant (LMIG) from the Georgia

Department of Transportation (GDOT).



Background: LMIG is the GDOT program that is provides funding to counties for

resurfacing and other capital transportation projects. The proposal is to use

FY 19 funds toward the Ft. Benning Road Roundabout and Street scapes Project.

The roundabout project began construction in September 2018 and is expected to

be complete in September 2020.



Analysis: It is necessary to execute the attached LMIG Agreement for 2019 with

GDOT in order to receive the funds and proceed with the project.



Financial Considerations: The FY19 LMIG allocation for Columbus-Muscogee

County from GDOT is $2,073,215.96 with a local 10% match requirement.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The completed street scapes and

roundabout will be included in the annual operating/capital budget for normal

maintenance.



Legal Considerations: Council must authorize the acceptance of all grants.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO MAKE APPLICATION AND RECEIVE THE FY 2019

LOCAL MAINTENANCE & IMPROVEMENT GRANT (LMIG) FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF

TRANSPORTATION (GDOT).

WHEREAS, the City has received notice from GDOT they are accepting applications

for the FY 2019 LMIG Program in the amount of $2,073,215.96 allocated for

Columbus-Muscogee County; and,

WHEREAS, the proposed use of the funds is for the construction of the Ft.

Benning Road Roundabout and Street Scapes projects; and,

WHEREAS, the match for these funds will come from the existing project budgets.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the Mayor is hereby authorized to make application and receive funds

allocated for the FY 2019 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) from the

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).
